Safe at Home Project
Keeping Neighbors Safe at Home
Since 2012, BRHBA has partnered with AHIP Home Repair Nonprofit and Charlottesville Area Association of REALTORS® (CAAR) on a critically needed community outreach effort to keep seniors, families with children, disabled neighbors, and other residents safe in their own homes. Together, the partners raise awareness, funds, and volunteer support for Charlottesville and Albemarle families who need emergency home repairs, larger rehabs, and money-saving energy upgrades.
Celebrating 40 years of service in 2016, AHIP is the only local home repair nonprofit in Charlottesville and Albemarle working year-round to address home deficiencies and hazards for low-income homeowners. Last year, AHIP kept the roof over 297 heads helping 130 households make 246 critical home repairs and energy upgrades.
“Homeownership matters, and it matters for the people who may not have the resources to make the critical repairs they need to stay in their homes,” Jennifer Jacobs, AHIP executive director, said. “We are not able to run our programs without the support of home builders and REALTORS®. They are among our strongest champions in our mission to provide a safe, secure, healthy environment for all. Only with their help can we achieve a high level of impact year after year.”
The 60-day spring Safe at Home fundraising campaign kicked off at the end of March during the 2015 BRHBA Home & Garden Festival by collecting an incredible $6,000 in donations during the event. The partnership went on to raise a total of $53,000+ by the end of May. Help our neighbors in need by donating online now. Thank you for your support!
